Youth Research Network Launch Conference
Hey guys!
I’m just writing to let you know how my first interview with a group of young people went. It was fantastic!
The first part was finding out that I am not the only seriously sad person in the world (Tesco is Ciara’s favourite shop as well). I never knew how much fun you could have buying sweets and spending someone else’s money.
It was incredibly nerve racking starting the first interview. What would the young people think about me? Would they feel comfortable talking to me? Did I fully understand everything I was asking? However, after about five minutes into the interview I felt completely at ease with the other young people. They were incredibly friendly, even though some were rather shy at the beginning. They all seemed to be exceptionally interested in what I was talking about and were giving me loads of fantastic data to use. The young people I was interviewing are in care and I learnt far more from speaking to them face to face then I could ever have learnt from reading an entire textbook about their lives. A lot of their stories shocked me and were very moving.
I felt privileged to have the opportunity to speak to such fascinating young people and I am looking forward to my next interview tremendously.
