We met up in london for a meeting to see how we were getting on and what it would lead to in the future.
It was great to see everyone again and meet the other people involved not just people in the investigation.I think it went really well, we analysed surveys, talked about going to geneva and WE HAD FUN!

The reason i got involved with children’s rights is because i have been in care since the age of 8 years old and i feel that i am one of the lucky ones, so my aim is to do as much as possible for children in care and from all other backgrounds and cultures all over England!!!!!

Hey there I just wanted to write my first blog and say I’ve enjoyed the weekend residential trip to Birmingham loads and I’m looking forward to the next one!
I’ve met loads of great people and I can see that children’s rights is beginning to gain a higher profile, which is great!

I’m REALLY REALLY passionate about children’s rights. Being brought up in care I never used to have any rights, and feel it’s a duty to help and advise other people about rights and how important they are. thats why i decide to join CRAE. Can I Getta woop woop!!!!!

Hi guys this is Alex here giving the first, of many updates from New York!!!

Today was the first of the World Fit for Children + 5 events.

My highlights of today were, meeting the other delegates from all over the world and visiting Macys’s shopping mall and trying Japanese food for the first time and eating with chop sticks.

I’m really looking forward the main UN meeting and hopefully getting the opportunity to speak about the main issues of Children’s Rights.

All the best to everyone back home!!!!!!

December 9 2007

Today I went to a meeting at the Town Hall which was to promote the ‘progress for children’ report. This is a statistical report showing the progress made by governments on HIV/Aids, education, child exploitation, poverty and children’s rights.

I asked a question about how do children defend their rights if they do not know that they exist and what can governments of the world do to educate children about their rights, so that they can defend them if they are ever exploited.

I also enjoyed the reception in the evening with the youth forum and found it a very exhilarating event.

December 11 2007

Today I enjoyed the opening of the plenary meeting, at the General assembly in the UN HQ.

I felt that the opening speech made by one of my fellow youth forum colleagues on behalf of the rest of the youth forum was a very touching and moving speech and it was nice to see everybody’s ideas within the youth forum come together in a very powerful speech. I am really looking forward to speaking at the General Assembly tomorrow in which I will be able to address some of the issues that the UK are still struggling to make progress in.

December 10 2007

Hi everybody. Today I spoke at the United Nations General Assembly. It was a great event, because I stood at the same podium as world leaders over the last 50 years – which not a lot of people from Essex have done. On the same token, it was a very sad day because we are leaving and it feels like everybody has just met!

But it was the most amazing thing I have ever done in all my life and will never forget the people I have met or the places I have been.

Hey guys!

I’ve just got back from a two day training event in Coventry. It was fantastic! It was the launch of the Youth Research Network and the focal point of the conference was to train young people in how to carry out in-depth research and where to find the resources and funding you’d need. I managed to give a Get Ready for Geneva flyer to every one of the 100 other delegates, get the organisers to make an announcement about the work we do and make the Youth Research Network commit to putting an article about the project into their monthly newsletter!

Hey guys!

I recently had my third interview up in Southampton and it was the most moving so far. I felt honoured that the young people I was interviewing were prepared to talk with me about such sensitive issues. They talked about serious depression and their living conditions.

My experience was another one which I’m not going to forget and is going to help form my understanding for the complicated world we all live in. I am lucky that I have the power to get these young people’s views heard and hopefully make a difference.
