New Equality Bill must protect children

Today in the Queen’s speech it was announced that a new ‘Equality Bill’ will soon be published.

The Children’s Rights Alliance for England (CRAE), along with leading children’s charities, the Equality and Human Rights Commission, the Metropolitan Police and others, wants to make sure that the new Bill will give children the same protection against discrimination as adults.

Carolyne Willow, national co-ordinator of CRAE said:

‘This Bill must aim to make Britain fairer for everyone and now is the time to introduce protection from age discrimination… Countries like Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Finland and Sweden protect their young from age discrimination, and so can we.’

CRAE is leading a campaign to make sure children’s rights are protected in this new Equality Bill. If you’d like to get involved in the Young Equals campaign contact equality@crae.org.uk
