More lessons in sex and relationships education

The Government has agreed to make sure all state schools give students good quality sex and relationships education.

Everyone aged 5 to 16 will now have to take part in personal, social and health education (PSHE) at school. The new compulsory lessons will include topics like:

  • Sex and relationships education
  • Drugs and alcohol
  • Living a healthy life
  • Basic first aid
  • Managing your money

The Children’s Minister, Baroness Morgan, said that the new lessons will give young people ‘…a range of essential life skills’.

The Government is now working on how this course should be taught.

CRAE hopes that the Government will do all it can to make sure schools also teach children’s human rights as part of the new PSHE lessons.
