Children and young people meet the Minister for Equality

On September 19th, four of the young people who attended CRAE’s consultation on age discrimination came down to London to meet the Minister for Equality Barbara Follett MP. They spoke to the Minister about why children need to be protected from age discrimination.

The meeting was really successful – the Minister had read the full report and said that the messages from the participants were really powerful. She was really shocked by some of the examples that the young people talked about, and said that they had changed some of her views on age discrimination and the need for legal protection against it for children.

Although we were really pleased with the meeting, we still have a lot of work to do. We still need to convince civil servants and other Government departments that children need legal protection from negative age discrimination.

If you would like to be involved in the campaign to get equal protection for children from age discrimination please, e-mail – we would love to hear from you!
