What does your local area know about children’s rights?
Last year, CRAE surveyed all local councils across England to find out what they knew about the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. We did this to help out our children’s rights champions, so that we could see where they might need help in getting their local decision-makers to take action on children’s rights.
From our survey, we found that:
- Over half of local councils say they have adopted the UNCRC...
- ...but 45% have not
- Local councils thought that not knowing enough about the UNCRC was a major barrier to helping children to enjoy their rights
CRAE’s national co-ordinator, Mike Lindsay, said about our report, called Beyond article 12:
‘This report shows that there is wide variation across the country about how well the UNCRC is used when providing services for children and young people. Some local councils are clearly doing some very good work, while others still have a long way to go.’
