My plans for the project in my area

Just to say that i gave three presentations on childrens rights – am awaiting photos though. I was awarded a cetificate for attending the trainig day and making presentaions to local youth organisations.

I am now starting to plan a information event and several different workshops around childrens rights and the get ready for geneva project. I am working in partnership with a participation worker who i originally spoke to about the informed and influential training day and it so happened that she was about to start planning a event to promote childrens rights, so we decided to combine both our ideas and do one big event and several smaller workshops and interactive displays where young people can come and learn about their rights etc. we our also thinking of locating a drama company to work with young people to express their views etc.

Also, there is a Children’s Commissioner, and i think there is a child friendly office (or something like that) and we would like to possibly hold a mini conference with young people there.

We have just set up a childrens rights advisory panel for southend to help plan and evaluate these things.

The panel will be applying for a Youth Opportunities Fund Grant – this will enable us to buy materials etc. I sit on the awarding panel so i wont be able to do the application myself but the other young people are going to apply for it.

I have written to Two local MP’s and because the are on ‘Parlimentary Recess’ or were when I wrote to them. they havent arrangied a meeting yet but both the Mp’s secretaries said that when they get back they will bring it to their attention and they feel that it is something worth discussing about and they will keep me informed on what the MP’s decision is.
