Get ready for change!

Get ready for change! is a project led by children and young people to check how well our Government protects children’s human rights, and to campaign for change.

It is special because:

  • It is led by children and young people
  • It is all about children and young people’s human rights
  • It gathers children and young people’s views and helps them take action on their rights.

In 2008, children and young people took their messages on human rights to the United Nations. They are now campaigning for their rights to be better protected.

Checking children’s rights

Every 5 years, the United Nations checks what the UK Government is doing to make sure children and young people’s human rights are respected and protected. The examination is carried out by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child in Geneva, Switzerland. The UN Committee hears from:

  • The Government
  • NGOs (non-governmental organisations) like children’s charities
  • Human rights bodies…
  • ...and children and young people.

What are children’s rights?

The Children’s Rights Alliance for England

The Children’s Rights Alliance for England (CRAE) runs Get ready for change! We try to make sure the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is always followed in England. We want children and young people to be respected and taken seriously.
